There's a question our nurses get at parties — usually delivered with a skeptical eyebrow, usually by someone's brother-in-law: "Okay but what does it actually DO?" And it's a fair question, because the industry has answered it terribly from both directions: the hype wing promises cellular miracles, the dismissive wing mutters "expensive placebo," and the honest mechanical answer — which is more persuasive than either — rarely gets airtime. Here it is.
The one-sentence answer
IV therapy puts fluids and nutrients directly into your bloodstream, skipping digestion entirely — which means full doses, delivered fast, regardless of what your stomach thinks about it. That's it. That's the technology. It's been hospital medicine for a century; the wellness version applies the same delivery route to hydration and nutrient repletion in healthy adults. What the mechanism buys you, concretely
